The program which started in December 2017 has so far produced about 400 doormats, shopping bags, purses, hats. 2)Recycling of plastic rubber waste into baskets, ropes and hats. The project, funded by GOWIC, trained women and youth to weave baskets, hats, and ropes using plastic rubber waste (pure water sachets, ‘takeaway rubbers’ etc.). The pilot programme currently has training & weaving centers at Akature, Tindonsolibgo in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Zorko, Zorko Goo, Gowrie, Kukumwa, Yariga and Vea in the Bongo District and Kongo in the Nabdam Districts. But for GOWIC these would have been pollutants since it is non-biodegradable. 3) GOWIC has carried out feasibility study in communities within the Bolgatanga Municipality on the menace of open defecation. This is line with our plan to work to ameliorate if not eliminate the menace of open defecation in The Bolgatanga municipality and its environs by 2023 and, review and re-strategize for total elimination of the menace by 2030.
